Technology: The paper industry is a future industry
The paper industry is a high-tech industry with a future. Around 3000 different types of paper are produced in Germany. All of them meet special customer requirements in terms of equipment and quality. Every year, the paper industry produces about 22.7 million tonnes of paper, cardboard and paperboard.  The almost 40,000 employees in the industry generate a turnover of 14.3 billion euros.
German papers are also in demand internationally. About 45 percent of production is exported. In many areas, German paper companies play in the premier league or are even world market leaders for their product. In international comparison, the paper industry in Germany has a highly modern machine park with which it is equipped for the future. In terms of production, it ranks first in Europe and fourth worldwide behind the USA, China and Japan.
